In the last century, the view on smoking cigarettes has changed drastically. Each week, more than 105 billion cigarettes are sold, which comes to ten million cigarettes per minute. Nevertheless, these days, smoking is considered a bad habit that is injurious to health of the smoker and to the individuals around him or her. Many public buildings prohibit the cigarette smoking, and cigarettes aren’t advertised anywhere anymore.

Cigarettes contain nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, ammonia, and arsenic. Smoking a single cigarette reduces the life expectancy by 10.7 minutes, so a pack of 20 cigarettes shortens the existence by more than three and half hours. In most key brands, the nicotine content is on the rise, and in some well-known brands, it has been raised by as much as 11%. Cigarettes include formaldehyde, arsenic, nitrogen oxide, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, carbon monoxide and 43 recognized carcinogens.

The irony about cigarette smoking is that even though most of the smokers are completely aware of the ill-effects related to cigarette smoking on their health, still a good number of them continue smoking. Smoking is very injurious to your physical health. There are a number of fatal diseases caused as a result of smoking.

Diseases such as cancer, high blood pressure, cataract, emphysema, stroke and heart attack can be encountered due to prolonged smoking. The passive smokers too are prone to all of these diseases, if they are standing next to a person who is smoking. When you ask a smoker, whether these facts are known to him, then chance are that he has the knowledge of the damages caused, and yet the addiction takes him over.
